Rebuilding Center
- Portland, OR
- 30,000 s.f.
- Extensive on-site stormwater management through infiltration and flow-through planters
- Porous concrete parking lot
- Extensive salvaged lumber, siding, windows and doors.
R&H worked closely with the rebuilding center, utilizing their own inventory of salvaged materials to expand the enclosed 24,000 s.f. storage space to two open and bright 17,000 s.f. and 11,000 s.f. warehouses. The dynamic center features a series of bays and narrow tilted roof planes. The walls are made of various cladding systems, topped by a continuous clerestory made of hundreds of salvaged windows. The shapely cob entrance, that also doubles as a outdoor meeting place, was built by dozens of volunteers and provides the building's focal point.
