A major milestone at the Guide Dogs for the Blind Oregon campus! R&H crews are underway on a new two-story, 36,000 s.f. campus hub and residence facility, and this past week, we celebrated the project’s topping out with a beam-signing ceremony and lunch.
Guide Dogs for the Blind staff and the entire project team came together for the occasion, with remarks from Guide Dogs for the Blind President and CEO Christine Benninger and R&H President and CEO Kraig O’Connor. Guide Dogs for the Blind staff also had the opportunity to tour the building and get a firsthand look at the progress made so far.
It was a great opportunity to recognize the hardworking crews bringing this project to life. We couldn’t be more excited to see this project reach another milestone!

Last week, R&H joined Heart of Oregon Corps team in celebrating the grand opening of the first youth workforce development campus in Central Oregon! The celebration brought together local leaders, community members and the HOC team, including Director Laura Handy and Deputy Director Kara Johnson as well as Oregon’s Chief Prosperity Officer Tim Knoop, who shared in the excitement of this milestone.
More than a new building, this campus represents a generational investment in the future of Central Oregon’s youth, creating a place where young individuals can learn, connect, build skills and find new opportunities for decades to come. R&H constructed the 6,600 s.f., metal-framed facility, which features trauma-informed design, office and coworking spaces, classrooms and gathering areas designed to bring the community together. The US Forest Service’s Hood River team has officially settled into their new 14,000 s.f. home! Designed to give the team more opportunities to connect, collaborate and get work done, the new office features open work areas, executive offices, casual collaboration spaces and flexible conference rooms. At the heart of the office, a central kitchen and common area create a welcoming place for staff to gather, while nature-inspired carpet, warm wood finishes and custom wall graphics bring the spirit of the outdoors inside.

What does a seismic upgrade actually look like? At Terwilliger Plaza’s annual Emergency Readiness Fair, our team gave members a closer look at the work currently underway beneath their homes. We shared the four methods being used to strengthen the building, from micropiles to fiber-reinforced polymer, along with plans, 3D models, material samples and even a Jenga model to show how it all comes together. Together, these tools gave members an inside look at how each piece of the upgrade contributes to a stronger, safer building for years to come.
For us, being a building partner means more than completing the work. It means being part of the community, answering questions and helping the members understand the work happening around them. We’re proud to continue that partnership throughout the project.

Our team constructed this ground-up 45,000 s.f., three-story affordable housing apartment building in Bend, Oregon. The development includes 45 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, providing additional affordable housing options in the growing Bend community. Designed with resident comfort and the high desert climate in mind, Nine Peaks features high-efficiency cooling systems, a central courtyard, and additional resident amenities that support comfortable, community-oriented living. We`re proud to have contributed to this new development in the Bend community!

Now open in Portland’s Pearl District, this 10,000 s.f. restaurant was designed as a love letter to Portland and Oregon, with each area taking on a personality of its own. The result is playful, nostalgic and a little unexpected, with references to the city, state and people who have shaped them woven throughout.
For R&H, bringing that vision to life meant an exceptionally detailed buildout. Layered wall treatments, specialty lighting, murals, reflective surfaces and one-of-a-kind decorative elements each required their own approach, with careful coordination between trades, artists, designers and fabricators. Even the transitions between spaces were part of the work, bringing together dramatically different finishes and materials while maintaining the craftsmanship expected throughout.
The finished restaurant is colorful, highly detailed and unmistakably Portland, with surprises everywhere you look.

This quarter, three R&H team members are celebrating an incredible 20 years with the company: Mike Aragon, Chris Hedger and Kraig O’Connor!
Mike and Chris have spent much of those 20 years leading some of R&H’s most complex work in the field. Mike’s project list includes One North, DoveLewis Animal Hospital and the Washington County Center for Addictions Triage and Treatment. Today, he’s leading construction of the AC Hotel McMinnville. Chris has built deep expertise in complex renovation work, including Broadway Medical Clinic, the 2 & Taylor building and Zupan’s Headquarters. He’s currently putting that expertise to work on a major seismic upgrade and occupied renovation at Terwilliger Plaza.
Kraig has grown with R&H from project engineer to project manager, senior project manager, director of operations and now president and CEO. Along the way, he helped lead major projects throughout the Northwest and today guides R&H’s vision and strategy, while also supporting our teams and day-to-day operations.
Twenty years means a lot of projects, a lot of memories and a lasting impact on R&H. We’re grateful to Mike, Chris and Kraig for all they’ve brought to the company. Cheers to 20 years!
